Elon Musk Buys 1,255 Ventilators From China, Donates Them To Los Angeles
Elon Musk, who was originally an outspoken skeptic of the severity of the coronavirus outbreak, has donated more than 1,000 ventilators to officials in Los Angeles to meet the demand.
The Tesla CEO said he helped acquire 1,255 of the machines from China last week and arranged them to be air-shipped to Los Angeles.
“Elon Musk: how about this? I told you a few days ago he was likely to have 1,000 ventilators this week,” California Governor Gavin Newsom told reporters on Monday. “They arrived in Los Angeles and Elon Musk is already working with the hospital association and others to get those ventilators out in real time. It’s an heroic effort.”
Governor Newsom also stated that six California companies have offered their facilities to manufacture gowns and he’s in conversation with another 25 providers that want to start 3D printing masks for health-care workers.
