Injured Swimmer Fire Department Rescue Report

Pi’ihonua

Juvenile Female w/leg and back injuries sustained after jumping from a 40′ high waterfall into a pond. Victim was able to swim to the bank of the pond, but unable to walk. Patient was placed on a spine board in full cervical spine precautions and extricated via Chopper 1 utilizing a long line, litter and attendant Rescue Fire Fighter.

Responding units met reporting party at the Pi’ihonua bridge. Kaumana Fire Station personnel went in on foot, wading in to access the patient and report back for best extrication. Waiakea Rescue Company and Chopper 1 extricated the patient to Pi’ihonua bridge where she was met by the Haihai Fire Station Medic. She was treated and transported for possible lower extremity and/or internal injuries. Pi’ihonua bridge was closed for the Landing Zone (LZ) operations. No other injuries.
