| When individuals test positive for COVID-19, contact tracers reach out to them to learn about their family and friends so that they can share information about testing and what they should do the prevent further spread of the disease. Contact tracers help answer questions and stay in touch with these family and friends to see if they develop any symptoms.
Recently, a family member took the time to write a thank-you note to one of the Department of Health’s contact tracers, Lauren Usagawa, Epidemiological Specialist III. The note pointed out that Lauren “consistently demonstrated innate humaneness and professionalism to our family during this unprecedented time of COVID 19…Lauren has been a reliable liaison to provide up to date information across multiple segments of family members, employers, and our primary care physician(s) to scale an effective plan in coping with COVID exposure. Furthermore, post quarantine steps to safely and confidently integrate back into society and daily life.

Lauren has created an impressionable mark on our family…She also routinely checked in on family members’ physical and mental well-being and managed logistics of food deliveries with the volunteer agency to assist our family during quarantine. Experiencing quarantine ignited anxiety and fear for our loved ones’ health and wellness.
