Approximately 1 acre area of pine needles, stumps, brush and pine trees smoldering and  active burning. There is no vehicle access, and very difficult to walk into with fire suppression equipment.

Company 10 was dispatched to a brush fire near Sand Hill/Honolulu Landing off of Government beach road in the district of Puna. On scene we found an approxiamtely 1 acre area burning with heavy smoke from pine needles and tree stumps burning. There was no direct road access to the burining area and HFD chopper 1 was brought in to do sea water bucket drops. Approximately 1000′ of  multiple lengths of hose was layed out over uneven terrain and thick brush to the fire area to begin ground extinguishment. Water shuttling operations were performed by HFD tanker units, but the road remained open. Extinguishing operations continued until dark with the perimeter of the fire being contained as well as most actively burning hot spots. Night watch personnel was brought in to monitor the smoldering burn area until day operation can resume tomorrow.
