* Flood Advisory for…
The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County
* Until 830 AM HST.
* At 533 AM HST, radar indicated moderate to locally heavy rain over
the Kau District with rainfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour.
Area streams continue to run elevated due to recent heavy
rainfall, with additional rain bands expected to affect the area
over the next couple hours. Minor flooding of low lying and poor
drainage areas can be expected.
* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to…
Punaluu Beach, Kawa Flats, Pahala, Naalehu, Wood Valley, Hawaiian
Ocean View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Waiohinu, Hawaii
Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit and Discovery Harbour.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 830 AM HST if flooding
Instructions: Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for the Big Island until 6 PM HST this evening.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for
* Molokai, Kauai, Maui, Lanai, Niihau, the Big Island, Oahu and
* Through this afternoon
* Deep moisture within an unstable easterly flow will produce
elevated threats for flash flooding today. While the primary flood
threat will be over windward and mountain slopes, all areas of the
state may experience flash flooding.
* Flood prone roads and other low lying areas may be closed due to
elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive
more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff.
Instructions: Be prepared to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued. If you experience heavy rain or rising waters, head to higher ground immediately. A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flash flooding. Flash Flooding is LIFE THREATENING. Do not cross fast flowing water in your vehicle or on foot.
