COVID-19 informational update for Monday, August 23rd
Civil Defense message.
This is a COVID-19 informational update for Monday, August 23rd.
For Hawaii County, the Department of Health reports 107 new cases and 1,649 active cases with 39 persons hospitalized.
The State and Island of Hawaii are experiencing wide-spread community-based transmission of the Coronavirus. We should do our best to slow the spread by limiting our activity in public to only essential needs. Minimize your risk to potential exposure by wearing face coverings in public, maintaining physical distance of at least 6 feet from others, washing your hands with soap and water often, and reducing the size of or avoiding social gatherings. If you are sick, stay at home unless seeking healthcare.
On testing, a community test is scheduled today in Hilo at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium from noon to 4 pm. Due to demand, gates may close sooner than 4 pm.
Clinics and pharmacies continue to offer COVID testing and vaccination. Please visit the Civil Defense website to view the testing and vaccination calendar and a comprehensive list of clinics and pharmacies providing testing and vaccination.
