Civil Defense message.

This is a COVID-19 informational update for Tuesday, August 31st.

For Hawaii County, the Department of Health reports 65 new cases and 1,885 active cases with 70 persons hospitalized.

The State and Island of Hawaii are experiencing wide-spread community-based transmission of the Coronavirus.  The current high number of cases is also affecting critical activities of medical services.  We need to slow the spread by limiting our activity in public to only essential needs.  If you do go out, minimize your risk to potential exposure by wearing face coverings, maintaining physical distance of at least 6 feet from others, washing your hands with soap and water often, and avoiding social gatherings.

On vaccinations and testing, a community event is scheduled today in North Kona at the Kona Aquatic Center from 11am to 4 pm.  Due to demand, gates may close sooner than the scheduled time.  Next community testing will be Wednesday at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium from 2 ‘til 6 in the afternoon.

For additional vaccination and testing information please visit the Civil Defense website to view the vaccination and testing calendars and a comprehensive list of clinics and pharmacies providing these services.  Please do your part to stop the virus and get vaccinated.
