Ige signs off on new DOH lab, school supply subsidies

HONOLULU — After weeks of photo-friendly signing ceremonies for high-profile bills, Gov. David Ige spent the past weekend putting serious ink to paper to enact more than a hundred less hyped but potentially just as impactful bills addressing health care, education and other perennial concerns.

    • House Bill 2515 provides for a new Department of Health laboratory capable of high-complexity testing for diseases and for air and water quality
    • The governor approved another pilot program that would create a visitation and family resource center at Waiawa Correctional Facility for children and families affected by parental incarceration
  • As of Tuesday, Ige had signed 220 of the 343 bills forwarded to him by the Legislature. He has designated another 30 for possible veto
