“My wife Noriko and I are shocked and incredibly saddened to hear of the assassination of Prime Minister Abe. Considered the most transformational politician in Japan’s post-World War II history, his leadership strengthened ties between Japan and the US and bolstered Japan’s national defense. No matter our views toward our elected officials, violence should never be the answer. Today, we join Japan in mourning their longest-serving Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, whose legacy will continue to carry on far beyond his last breaths.”
