Leilani Fire Unified Command Update, 4 p.m., August 14, 2022
DEPARTMENT OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES
- Fire area - 16,800 acres with 65% containment
- Resources today – 41 firefighters and eight overhead personnel, three helicopters (2-PTA, 1-DLNR/DOFAW contracted), six contract bulldozers, 13 engines, water tenders, and brush trucks
- Fire behavior – Fire spread has slowed in sparse grass on a ‘A’a lava flow in ohia forest. Containment and control remains dependent on fire behavior, wind, and difficult terrain.
- Actions planned for Monday 8/15/22 – Continue creating fire breaks with bulldozers to contain the fire. Continue to secure the fire perimeter behind dozers.
Rain has begun falling in the fire area this afternoon and firefighters hope it will provide additional help for containment and control.
