Official Report….Brush Fire…Approximately 500 yrds South of Haena Beach

9 HFD apparatus; 15 HFD personnel

Cause is undetermined

Approx 30×50 ft area of thick, forested pine trees approx 500 yrds south of Shipman Beach along trail.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the 30×50 ft fire was inaccessible to the responding units. E3, E-18 and T-3 were cancelled. E-5 set up a landing zone for C-1. C-1 commenced with bucket drops until refueling. Co 5 and BC1 personnel continued suppression efforts until the arrival of nightwatch personnel at approx 2000. Nightwatch continued with minor flare ups and suppression efforts will continue today with Co 5 personnel.

While returning to quarters from an ocean rescue in HPP, Chopper 1 noticed a small brush fire near Haena Beach. Chopper returned to quarters to pick up the Bambi Bucket for water drops.Chopper 1 returned to initiate fire suppression. BT5 and M5 personnel proceeded to fire with hand tools as fire was inaccessible to HFD vehicles.
