Hawaii is included in a pair of multi-state settlements with the credit-rating service Experian over data breaches that compromised the personal information of millions of consumers in 2012 and 2015.

The coalition of states also settled with T-Mobile in connection with the 2015 Experian breach, which impacted more than 15 million applicants for T-Mobile credit
The settlements total more than $16 million, with Hawaii set to receive a total of $181,980. The companies have also agreed to improve their data security practices
The Sept. 2015 breach affected 68,978 Hawaii residents
As part of the settlement, affected customers will be offered five years of free credit monitoring services and two free copies of credit reports annually over the same period
