The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for…
The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County
* Until 1215 PM HST.
* At 918 AM HST, emergency management reported that Highway 11 has
been closed at Kawa Flats in the Kau District. This is from mile
marker 56 to 62. Heavy rainfall has been occurring in the Kau
District from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to Naalehu with
rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Low water crossings along Wood
Valley Road are also expected to be impassable.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE…Emergency management.
IMPACT…Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are
possible in steep terrain.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
Pahala, Wood Valley, Punaluu Beach, Kawa Flats, Naalehu, Hawaii
Volcanoes National Park, Waiohinu, Discovery Harbour and Hawaii
Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit.
This warning may need to be extended beyond 1215 PM HST if flooding
persists.
FLASH FLOOD…OBSERVED

Instructions:
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.
