HONOLULU — Gov. Josh Green has appointed former Kauai County Council member Luke Evslin and former executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Homelessness Trish La Chica to fill vacant seats in the state House of Representatives.

Evslin was appointed to the House District 16 (Wailua, Hanamaulu, Kapaia, Lihue, Puhi, Omao) seat, replacing James Tokioka, whom Green appointed to serve as deputy director of the state Department of Transportation’s Airports Division
La Chica succeeds Ryan Yamane in representing House District 37 (Mililani Mauka, Mililani Town, Koa Ridge and Waipio Gentry). Green appointed Yamane to serve as deputy director of the state Department of Human Resources Development
Evslin was elected to the Kauai County Council in 2018 and drove legislation addressing affordable housing, free septic systems for homeowners and other initiatives
La Chica ran unsuccessfully for the House District 36 seat in 2018 and 2020
