Community: 7-17-23 Police Seek Leads in July 2021 Puna Murder

Hawai‘i Island police are renewing their request for information about a July 2021 unsolved murder that occurred in Puna.

On July 31, 2021, the body of 76-year-old Michael Rosenbaum was discovered at MacKenzie State Recreation Area in Puna.

Rosenbaum had been reported as a missing person on July 24, 2021. He was reportedly last seen alive on July 22, 2021, in Pāhoa town.

Rosenbaum’s body was found by a local fisherman on the cliffs below the beach park. An autopsy later concluded that Rosenbaum died from a gunshot wound.

The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing this investigation, which is classified as second-degree murder.
