Visitor Spending Increased to $2 Billion in June 2023
Aloha kākou,
The State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) released its June 2023 visitor statistics report today.
We are pleased to see Hawai‘i’s visitor industry continuing its recovery trajectory with total visitor spending at $2 billion in June 2023, up 22.7% from June 2019, while visitor arrivals continued to trail slightly.
Complementing the industry’s positive recovery is the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority’s community-based destination stewardship programs throughout the state which remain an important part of ensuring a regenerative tourism model prioritizes the needs of our residents.
The latest Resident Sentiment Survey data shows increasing awareness and understanding amongst kama‘āina of key destination management actions completed and currently underway on each island. Additionally, the survey results affirm the community’s appreciation of these efforts to balance the impacts of tourism proactively in areas that are most impacted.
Visitor spending directly drives economic stability for our islands – that’s why HTA, our island destination managers, our Global Marketing Team, and industry and community partners urge travelers to support the local economy to build a regenerative tourism future that can sustain our state for decades to come.
Guided by our 2020-2025 Strategic Plan and Destination Management Action Plans, we remain committed to these stewardship efforts which enhance our residents’ quality of life and the visitor experience.
