This is a Severe Weather Information update for Monday, August 7th at 8 AM.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center reports Hurricane Dora is located approximately 630 miles southeast of Hawaii Island, moving westward at 23 MPH. Hurricane Dora is forecast to pass safely south of Hawaii Island on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Hamakua, North and South Kohala, North Kona, and Kau Districts, and the summits of Hawaii Island and a High Wind Advisory for Hilo and Puna Districts through Wednesday.

Sustained winds of up 45 MPH with gusts of over 65 MPH are forecast.

Winds this strong can uproot trees and cause dangerous driving conditions.

Due to dry and windy conditions, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for South Kohala, North and South Kona, and Kau Districts through Wednesday.

A High Surf Warning for all east facing shores of Hawaii Island, from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Kau is in effect from this evening through tomorrow. Surf is forecast to be 10 to 15 feet.

Strong breaking waves and powerful currents will make swimming dangerous and life threatening.

Please secure outdoor items, drive with caution, and avoid any outdoor activities that involve the use of fire or a fire ignition source.
