This is a Severe Weather Information update for Tuesday, August 8th at 8 AM.
The Central Pacific Hurricane Center reports Hurricane Dora is currently passing south of Hawaii.
The National Weather Service High Wind Warning for Hamakua, North and South Kohala, North Kona, and Kau Districts, and the summits of Hawaii Island and the High Wind Advisory for Hilo and Puna Districts remain in effect through Wednesday.
Sustained winds of up 45 MPH with gusts of over 65 MPH are forecast.
Damaging winds are being reported across Hawaii Island resulting in downed trees and utility lines, road closures, and brush fires.
The National Weather Service Red Flag Warning for South Kohala, North and South Kona, and Kau Districts remains in effect through Wednesday.
The High Surf Warning for all east facing shores of Hawaii Island, from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Kau remains in effect through this evening.
Please avoid any outdoor activities that involve the use of fire or a fire ignition source.
