16 sheep freed after alleged poachers were cited for not having a hunting license

Sixteen sheep were freed on Hawaii Island after alert officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement cited alleged poachers, according to a news release.

    • Five different men were cited under the Civil Resource Violation System for not having a valid hunting license and other violations
    • Fines ranges from $350 to $850
    • The Civil Resource Violation System was launched in October and it allows state conservation officers to write tickets or fines on the spot for violations
  • By doing this, officers and violators avoid having to go to court

On Tuesday in the early morning hours before the sunrise, the officers were driving on Daniel K. Inouye Highway (also known as Saddle Road) when they saw a pair of men who had with them three male sheep. The men did not have a valid hunting license.
