This a High Surf Advisory update for Friday morning, December 15th.
The National Weather Service High Surf Advisory for all northeast facing shores of Hawaii Island, from Upolu Point in North Kohala to Cape Kumukahi in Puna, remains in effect through Friday evening.
A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and dangerous currents could cause injury or death.
Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials; when in doubt, don’t go out.
The Department of Parks & Recreation reports Onekahakaha Beach Park and Coconut Island in Hilo are closed today due to dangerous surf conditions and debris.
