…WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON OVER WINDIER AREAS OF ALL ISLANDS… .Strong high pressure will continue to build north of the Hawaiian Islands today. Strong and gusty easterly trade winds will exceed wind advisory thresholds in windier areas across the state through Thursday. * WHAT…East winds 25 to 35 mph with localized gusts over 50 mph. * WHERE…Portions of Kahoolawe, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and the Big Island. * WHEN…Until 6 PM HST Thursday. * IMPACTS…Winds this strong can tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles.

Instructions

Watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving. Make sure tents and awnings are secure or take them down. Be prepared for power outages.

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI MAUI AND THE BIG ISLAND UNTIL 6 PM HST FRIDAY… .Strong trade winds near and upstream of the islands will generate rough and choppy surf along east facing shores for the next couple of days. * WHAT…Surf building to 8 to 12 feet. * WHERE…East facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai Maui, and the Big Island. * WHEN…Until 6 PM HST Friday. * IMPACTS…Moderate. Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous.

Heed all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out. Know your limits and seek ocean recreation areas best suited for your abilities.
