Five months after opening, the North Kohala Tool Library (NKTL) has signed over 75 new members, completed almost 300 tool loans, & added over 500 tools to the inventory. We are completely operated by a dedicated group of volunteers and are so grateful to our Kohala community for your support and aloha. Please join us in celebrating our Grand Opening! Sunday, April 21, 11:00am to 3:00pm 54-3842 Akoni Pule Highway in Kapaau (the old Sunshine Hardware Building near the park entrance) Parking: Street parking is limited & Kamehameha Park is a short walk away! Program 11:00am • Blessing by Kealoha Sugiyama 12:00pm • Music by N$R 1:00pm • Kohala RMD Taiko 2:00pm • Halau Hula Kalaniumi a Liloa with Kumu Kaui Nakamura Lucky number raffle prizes from local businesses Shave ice & food vendors will be available for purchase Tool Librarians will be on hand to share information about how the tool library works, help you sign up for a membership (available to EVERYONE in Kohala regardless of ability to pay, donation based) and show you around the tool library to introduce you to our ever expanding inventory. NKTL is a nonprofit project fiscally sponsored by the Friends of the Future, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit umbrella organization in Waimea, Hawaiʻi. To date, all funds have been acquired through generous community donations, fundraising, tool sales, and a grant through County Councilmember Cindy Evans and the Contingency Relief Fund. However, we still need to raise funds to keep the doors open and continue to pay for rent, liability insurance, utilities, tool repairs and purchases. Tax-deductible donations can be made by visiting our website and clicking on the “DONATE” button. Gently used tool donations are also always welcome and can be dropped off during open hours or by appointment. |

Memberships are available to North Kohala residents and are donation-based with a minimum suggested yearly donation of $30 per year (less than the cost of gas for a round trip to Kona!). Sign up online! |

Browse our searchable online tool database. We don’t just have construction tools, we also have hobby and craft tools, catering equipment, landscaping tools, etc. Expand your idea of what qualifies as a “tool” to include “any item that can help one complete a project or task!” Most tools are completely free to borrow for one week and late fees are accrued at $1 per tool, per day. Some “super tools” have higher maintenance requirements and therefore have a maintenance fee, shorter loan periods, and higher late fees associated with borrowing them. |
