Update: HĀWĪ TRANSFER STATION CLOSED THROUGH WEDNESDAY, 9/25/24
An unidentified liquid, later determined to be transformer oil, was improperly disposed of in a chute at the Hāwī Transfer Station. The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health is working with the Department of Environmental Management to remove the liquid safely. There is no immediate threat to the public.
Notice: The Hāwī Transfer Station will be closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (September 23-25, 2024) for safety measures and cleanup. Residents are advised to use the Waimea or Puakō Transfer Stations, which will be open during these days. It is currently uncertain whether the Hāwī Transfer Station will reopen after Wednesday.
