Hawaiʻi Island — Now in its fourth year, the Vibrant Hawaiʻi Resilience Hub Summit emerged as a leading forum for advancing community-driven disaster preparedness and response across the state, underscoring the critical partnership between local communities and government agencies.
Drawing on lessons from past disasters, the Summit brought together community leaders, emergency managers, government partners, and local experts to fortify the Resilience Hub Network—a statewide initiative dedicated to strengthening local readiness and resilience. Through workshops and focused discussions, participants gained practical skills, built strategic partnerships, and improved coordination between residents and emergency response agencies. This collaborative approach has positioned communities to be better prepared for future emergencies while complementing the vital work of government agencies in disaster management.
“What I witnessed at this summit is how resilience is truly built—through community, shared learning, aloha, and a deep sense of kuleana and responsibility to one another. The summit created a space for all of that to come together,” said Amos Lonokaiua-Hewitt, Administrator, Maui Emergency Management. “I saw real steps forward in building a resilient community—one that’s leading the way for the entire state of Hawaiʻi.”
The Vibrant Hawaiʻi Resilience Hub Network has expanded to include communities across the Koʻolau region of Oʻahu, deepening cross-island partnerships that enhance readiness and coordination so communities can effectively support one another in the event of a major disaster.
“As we reflect on this year’s Resilience Hub Summit, I’m inspired by the momentum we’ve built together,” said Janice Ikeda, Chief Executive Officer of Vibrant Hawaiʻi. “Our vision extends beyond any single community—it’s about uniting our islands through strong, collaborative networks that can respond effectively in times of need. We’re deeply grateful for the guidance and support we’ve received from Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency and Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency, whose partnership has been essential in helping us chart a path forward for all our communities. Together, we’re building a future where every community has the resources and connections to weather any storm.”
