Mega sized single family residence, Type 5 construction.
Per first in officer, nothing showing upon arrival. After completing a 360 walk around of the structure, smoke had extended through walls and the attic. Smoke was coming out of the rafters.
Upon arrival, a mega single story single family residence, approximately 7,000 sq ft with smoke coming from the rafters and attic in the bravo/charlie corner (southwest corner). Area of concern was located due to highest concentration of smoke, however still no flames were present at this time.
Two lines were initially deployed for fire attack and suppression. The fire was hidden and therefore took some time to locate.
At this time fire attack crews began opening up the walls of the bedroom in the bravo/charlie corner. By this time the fire inside the walls and attic had progressed significantly and there was heavy smoke starting to bank down in all areas surrounding this bedroom. As crews continue to open up the walls, the fire broke through the roof with flames visible in this corner.
Due to the uncertainty of the fires extension and location, an additional company was requested by BC2.
Crews continued to open up walls and ceilings until we were able to get ahead of the fire in the attic space which took several hours. By this point there was an interior collapse of the roof in the large living room/kitchen area. This was potentially due to an HVAC system that was above the main fire.
Crews were able to contain the fire to about 25% of the main structure.
Estimated value of this property is about $26 million dollars. Crews saved close to $20 million worth of the property.
