| The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Public Works announces that a project to repair the Kaiwilahilahi and Honoliʻi Stream bridges is being extended to February 2026.
Conducted by Isemoto Contracting, the repair projects for both bridges, located on Old Māmalahoa Highway in Pāpaʻaloa and Kāhoa Street in Paukaʻa, began in January 2024 and was initially expected to be complete in August 2025. During initial repairs, additional damage was discovered, requiring an expanded scope of work and an extension of the project schedule.
Motorists may encounter road closures, detours and/or delays within the construction areas. Local traffic is allowed only. Temporary traffic controls and/or flaggers will be directing traffic.
The bridge repair and preservation work includes grubbing, grading, deck drain replacement, concrete spall and crack repairs, applying bridge deck waterproofing, and completing asphalt paving.
The County of Hawaiʻi would like to thank the communities in advance for their patience and understanding. |
