Council Member James Hustace relaying information regarding our North Kohala Water (Well #2 and Well #3)
On Tuesday, I had requested DWS to present before Council regarding the well failure and repair efforts occurring in August. They also shared updates and answered questions from the Council as to this current and ongoing impact. The Department shared an overview before I began asking questions. I have copied the video recording from that presentation below.

The Department did not have an answer as to the reason of the failure on both instances. It was shared that an assessment would be made as to the reason of the failure, but they are more focused on restoring service at this time.
Well #3 for the Hawi system in Halaʻula has never been successfully put into operation. The Department is going through the warranty process to replace components of that well. I don’t have a clear timeline for bringing that well online as it is takes a couple of years to undergo that process.
It is my understanding that the timeline for repairing well #2 will be similar to that of the first round of repair efforts. I will continue to share any information that I receive from the Department and am grateful for your efforts in the same regard.
Mahalo,
James
