Forest involving Eucalyptus and Koa trees
Day 1, smoke sighted deep in Eucalyptus forest. Fire not accessible by vehicles or manpower. Night watch set up to monitor fire progress. Day 2 the fire moves mauka through Eucalyptus trees and into the Koa forests. Dozers on scene to create fire breaks and roads for ground crews and vehicles to make access for HFD, DOFAW, National Parks and Voluteers.
Day 1 Company 17, Company 08, T09 and V08A responded to smoke sighted call in district 17. Upon investigation found a plume of smoke burning deep in the Eucalyptus forest. Current situation was fire was inaccessible by vehicles or ground crews. Night watch was set up to monitor fire progress. Day 2 at morning break, full scale brush fire was initiated by BC1 and Capt.17. Fire changed direction and started to burn through Eucalytus trees and in to the Koa reserve forests. 4 D6 dozers were utilized to create fire breaks and road ways for HFD and volunteer vehicles to create a last stand for approaching fire front. HFD Volunteers, National Parks, DOFAW and State were activated by the IC to help with brush fire. Brush fire burned through fire breaks and in to the Koa forest reserve. All personnel and vehicles still on scene battling brush fire at this time. HFD, DOFAW, State and National Parks to remain on scene througout the night for night watch and fire suppression operations. Fire still burning at this time.
