This is a Civil Defense Severe Weather Update for Friday 03-13-2026 at 05:58 PM.

The National Weather Service High Wind Warning for All Hawaii Island Districts continues through Sunday morning.  The Flood Advisory for the Kau and Puna Districts continues through 8:30 pm this evening.

A High Wind Warning means dangerous and severe sustained winds of at least 40 MPH with gusts over 60 MPH are expected.

Due to the High Wind Warning, please be advised:

  • Consider postponing or cancelling outdoor activities.
  • Avoid any activity that involves using open flames such as grilling and camp fires.
  • Those in the warning area should take necessary precautions.
  • Secure boats and aircraft.
  • Please stay clear of downed utility lines and report all hazards to authorities.

Due to the Flood Advisory, be advised:

Residents in flood prone areas should be prepared for heavy rains and potential flooding.

Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around don’t drown.

Roads may close without notice.

As a reminder:  All County non-emergency services are Closed through Saturday.

Closures include: all transfer stations and landfills, parks, facilities, and offices.  Please do not leave rubbish at the closed transfer stations.
