Vibrant Hawaiʻi Receives Nearly 900 Disaster Case Management Referrals Following March Kona Low Storm

Affected households are asked to respond to confirm whether they still need assistance

HAWAIʻI ISLAND, Hawaiʻi — Vibrant Hawaiʻi received nearly 900 disaster case management referrals from the state on July 27, 2026. The referrals involve households that requested FEMA assistance following the March Kona Low Storm.

Because several months have passed since the storm, Vibrant Hawaiʻi is contacting each household by phone, text message, and email to determine whether they are still interested in receiving disaster case management services.

“We recognize that household circumstances may have changed during the months since these families initially requested assistance,” said Janice Ikeda, Chief Executive Officer of Vibrant Hawaiʻi. “Our immediate priority is to identify who still needs support so our disaster case managers can begin working with those households as efficiently as possible.”

Households receiving a text message or email from Vibrant Hawaiʻi will be asked to complete a short survey indicating whether they:

  • Still need assistance and would like to participate in disaster case management; or
  • No longer need assistance and would like their case to be closed.

Disaster case management helps households identify unmet needs, understand available resources, develop a recovery plan, and connect with government, nonprofit, and community-based assistance. Participation is voluntary, and receiving disaster case management does not guarantee financial assistance or eligibility for a particular program.

Vibrant Hawaiʻi asks recipients to respond promptly to the text message sent from 1(808) 900-0256 or email sent from contact@vibranthawaii.org so that staff can prioritize households that continue to need support. Households should verify that any communication they receive comes from Vibrant Hawaiʻi before sharing personal information.

Individuals who requested FEMA assistance following the March Kona Low Storm and believe their case may be among those referred may call or text Vibrant Hawaiʻi at 801-317-8448 or navigator@vibranthawaii.org.
