Police Charge Arkansas Man in Sexual Assault Investigation
Hawai‘i Island police have charged Timothy Efird of Hot Springs, Arkansas, with first- and second-degree sexual assault following an investigation into two reported incidents involving an adult female victim in West Hawai‘i.
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 6:28 p.m., South Kohala patrol officers responded to a condominium complex in the Waikoloa area after receiving a report of a sexual assault involving an adult female victim.
During the investigation, police learned that Efird had reportedly sexually assaulted the victim on two separate occasions. One incident reportedly occurred during the early morning hours of July 31 at a residence in Kailua-Kona, while the second occurred in the morning of August 4 at a condominium in the Waikoloa area.
At 7:48 p.m. on August 4, South Kohala patrol officers located Efird and placed him under arrest as detectives with the Area II Juvenile Aid Section continued the investigation.
Efird was subsequently charged on Thursday, August 6, with first-degree sexual assault and second-degree sexual assault. His total bail was set at $300,000. His initial court date was Friday, August 7 in Kona District Court.
