Civil Defense continues to monitor and track the following incidents:

Hawaii Fire Department reports Daniel K. Inouye Highway will remain closed tonight and tomorrow, Thursday between Old Saddle Road Junction and Highway 190 Junction, as fire crews continue to battle the fires that was started yesterday.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports Kilauea Volcano Eruption Episode 53 began this afternoon at 3:45 PM. Tephra and elevated gas levels are expected to remain within the National Park, but may be observed on Highway 11 near the crater. If you are in the area or downwind of the eruption, please limit exposure – that may irritate the skin and eyes and cause respiratory issues.

The National Hurricane Center reports the tropical disturbance located approximately 900 miles east-southeast of Hilo that has sustained winds of nearly 40 MPH and moving toward Hawaii at approximately 9 MPH is forecast to develop into a tropical storm by tomorrow, Thursday. All residents, please take this time to prepare for possible impact of high surf, flooding rains, and damaging winds by reviewing your emergency plan, making sure you have food, water, and fuel, and by signing up for Civil Defense alert messages.
