This is a Civil Defense message for Sunday 09-06-2026 at 09:30 AM.

The National Weather Service High Surf Advisory for southeast and southwest facing shores of Hawaii Island has been extended through Monday evening.

A High Surf Advisory means surf is higher than normal, shore break, and dangerous currents could cause injury or death.

Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution when entering the water.

Due to the high surf, the following County Park & Recreation facilities remain closed;

Honaunau Boat Ramp

Kahalu`u Beach Park

La`aloa Beach Park

Old A’s Strip

Kohanaiki Beach Park

Mahukona Wharf
