Lexa, a 2-year-old golden retriever in General Trias, Cavite, Philippines, survived an incredible three days trapped beneath the wreckage of a landslide that destroyed much of her family’s home.

The family’s house stood near a river, and after days of heavy rain, soil behind the property collapsed on Aug. 7. The landslide sent mud, broken concrete and other debris crashing through the home.

The family was evacuated from the area, but Lexa was nowhere to be found.

They feared the worst.

Then, after three days, they heard her.

Somewhere beneath the wreckage, Lexa was still alive and barking.

Volunteers immediately began working to reach her. Using jackhammers and other tools, they carefully chipped away at the rocks and debris surrounding the trapped dog.

It was a race against time, but eventually the rescuers created a small opening.

Lexa crawled out of the hole and into the arms of the people who had refused to give up on her.

After three days buried beneath the rubble, she was finally free. Her incredible rescue is a powerful reminder to never give up hope, even when things seem hopeless.
