Maui: Seniors, disabled riders get fare cut
Seniors, disabled riders get fare cut
Seniors and disabled paratransit Maui Bus riders will be paying lower fares come Monday due to a federal law, the county Department of Transportation said Tuesday.
Public transportation agencies that receive Federal Transit Administration funding under the Section 5307 Urbanized Area Formula Program are required to offer half fare or reduced fares on the fixed route service to those groups of riders, the department said.
The single boarding fare will be $1 for fixed route service and applies to people 55 years and older; paratransit eligible and people with a disabilities (with valid ID); and Medicare card holders.
Seniors will need to show a valid ID with date of birth; paratransit eligible riders, a valid paratransit ID card; people with a disability, a valid disability fixed route ID card; and Medicare card holders, a valid Medicare card.
General fares for the Maui Bus are $2 per boarding or $4 for a daily pass.
