Police Charge Woman with Multiple Burglary, Theft, and Auto Theft Offenses
Hawai‘i Island police have arrested and charged 47-year-old Kathryn Sadecki with multiple burglary, theft, and auto theft offenses stemming from five separate property crime investigations in Kona, South Kohala, and Ka‘ū between July and August 2026.
On Sunday morning, August 9, 2026, shortly before 7:40 a.m., Kona patrol officers responded to a restaurant in the 75-5000 block of Ali‘i Drive in Kailua-Kona for a report of a burglary in progress.
The restaurant owner, who was monitoring the business remotely by surveillance camera, reported seeing an unknown woman inside the closed restaurant without permission.
Responding officers located Sadecki inside the restaurant and took her into custody. Review of surveillance footage showed Sadecki entering the business by climbing over a balcony railing and accessing the rooftop area before making her way inside. She was also observed manipulating surveillance cameras, rummaging through areas of the restaurant, and consuming food and beverages belonging to the business.
In the course of being arrested officers recovered a set of Hyundai vehicle keys from Sadecki. Further investigation determined the keys belonged to a Hyundai Tucson that had previously been reported stolen from a residence in the 76-6000 block of Ali‘i Drive.
The stolen Hyundai had been located the previous evening, August 8, in the parking lot of a grocery store in the 75-900 block of Henry Street in Kailua-Kona, where Sadecki had been investigated for a separate theft. In that incident, store employees reported observing Sadecki consume merchandise before leaving the store without making an attempt to pay.
A subsequent search of the stolen Hyundai resulted in the recovery of several personal items belonging to Sadecki.
Police also charged Sadecki in connection with an August 4 burglary of a residence in the 78-100 block of Hōlua Road in Kailua-Kona. During that investigation, officers determined the residence had been unlawfully entered while unoccupied. Evidence recovered from inside the residence was subsequently connected to Sadecki.
Sadecki was additionally charged in connection with the theft of a 2026 BMW iX M70 from a residence in the Waikoloa area. The vehicle was located in Ocean View in July after residents reported suspicious activity involving the vehicle. Subsequent investigation determined the BMW had been stolen from the Waikoloa property, which had also been burglarized. Sadecki was identified from surveillance imagery as one of the individuals associated with the vehicle.
As a result of the investigations, Sadecki was charged with the following offenses:
- First-degree burglary
- Second-degree burglary
- First-degree theft
- Two counts of first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle
- Two counts of fourth-degree theft
Total bail was set at $87,000. Her initial court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday, August 11.
