Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan Update

INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS

 Every 10 years, the County of Hawaiʻi Solid Waste Division (“Division”) is required to update its Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan (ISWMP or the Plan), per Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes Section 342G.

The current planning cycle began in May of 2018, with the Solid Waste Advisory Committee holding monthly meetings which were open to the public. The committee worked with the Division and its consultant to develop the revised Plan. The draft Plan will be available to the public in pdf format on the Division’s website on

December 6, 2019 (www.HawaiiZeroWaste.org).

The public comment period will be open for sixty (60) days, from December 6, 2019 through February 4, 2020, and we encourage all those interested in submitting comments to do so during that time period.

Two informational meetings will be held for the public to learn more about the Draft Plan, the findings, recommendations and to answer any questions the public may have. We hope this will assist the public if they choose to provide testimony regarding the draft report.  The dates, times, and locations of the informational meetings are below.

Written testimony will be accepted throughout the entire public comment period, and oral testimony will be taken at public hearings which will be held on January 21 and 23, 2020.  Details for the public hearings will be announced at a later date.
