Kāwā Bay..5 year old male..stabilized and further transported to Hilo Medical Center in critical condition….Drowning Report

5 year old male unresponsive on shoreline of beach. CPR being performed by family member.

Company 11, from Pahala Fire Station and Na’alehu responded to scene with HPD. Off road vehicle used to access beach area from Highway 11. Found a pulseless and unresponsive 5 year old male on beach with CPR being performed by family member. HFD personnel took over resucitation efforts and patient extricated from beach to Medic unit using off road vehicle. Advanced life support treatment initiated and patient transported to Ka’u Hospital by HFD Medic 11. Patient stabilized and further transported to Hilo Medical Center in critical condition.

Sandy, rocky beach area with surrounding low lying cliffs. Gated acess off of Highway 11 with half a mile off road to beach area. Rough surf with choppy conditions.
