Upon arrival found single story home engulfed in flames along with 2 vehicles on fire. Search conducted which revealed no one in the residence or vehicles. Fires were extinguished and overhauled, scene turned over to fire investigator and HPD.
Per HPD interviews, squatters had been occupying this 1992 built, 1624sq ft. home. Fire appeared to originate at the carport where one of two vehicles were on fire. First in company from the Paradise Park Fire Station, along with HPP volunteers, performed a primary search for any occupants and intitiated suppression efforts. Incoming units from Pahoa and Kea’au provided additional personnel and a water shuttle. A magnesium engine block in the minivan, in the carport, resisted extingishment due to the interaction of water and burning magnesium, slowing fire suppression. Once fire was knocked down, a thorough secondary search was performed with negative findings. Fire was fully extinigished and turned over the HFD and HPD investigators. No injuries were reported.
