Wind Advisory for North and South Kohala Districts

This is a Civil Defense message.

This is a Severe Weather update for Wednesday, February 8 at 5 PM.

The National Weather Service Wind Advisory remains in effect for Hawaii Island districts, including the summits, thru Friday.  Sustained winds of 25 to 35 MPH with gusts of over 50 MPH is forecast.  Winds at the summits are forecast to be 30 to 55 MPH with gusts over 60 MPH.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Wind Advisory for North and South Kohala Districts to a High Wind Warning!  Sustained winds of 20 to 40 MPH with gusts of over 58 MPH is forecast for North and South Kohala Districts through Friday.

  • Winds this strong are damaging.
  • Exercise caution when opening and closing doors.
  • Please secure outdoor items from becoming airborne.
  • Be aware of downed trees, stay clear of downed utility lines, and report downed lines to authorities.

The National Weather Service has also issued a High Surf Advisory for all east facing shores of Hawaii Island, from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Ka`u through Saturday.  Waves are expected to build tonight to 10 feet and Thursday to 12 feet.

  • Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers exercise caution and heed all advice given by Ocean-safety Officials.
