Visitors can make their own cherry blossom art at the Firehouse Gallery
(KAMUELA, HI, Feb. 8, 2022) – The Waimea Arts Council presents a new show incorporating
the annual Cherry Blossom art show and expanding into interpretations of spring by local
artists. The Signs of Spring show runs from February 4 – March 27, 2022 at the Firehouse
Gallery on the Historic Corner in Kamuela/Waimea.
The 2022 Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival has been canceled due to Covid concerns, but the
cherry trees are in bloom and the gallery is open to celebrate the arrival of spring.
“Like others, I keep looking for the positive, signs we are coming out of the pandemic,” says
local artist Dawn Sagar, “to plant a garden is to hope for the future: that’s spring!”
Sagar’s painting “Waimea Snow Blossoms” was chosen for this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival poster. She says it was inspired by “a fabulously windy Waimea morning, when the wind
was coming off the mountains in exuberant gusts beneath a fiercely sunny sky. The petals
blowing off the cherry trees reflected the snow above – a dance between easy and air, winter
and spring.” Posters are available for purchase at the gallery.
Visitors are invited to explore the fine art experience by creating their own
Cherry Blossom Dot Art Stabile. They can follow our sample blend of
renowned artists Calder and Kushama or explore their own personal style.
Docents will provide materials and guidance and visitors can take their own
kit home for more creations. All is free of charge.
The Signs of Spring show includes photography, painting, collage, glass
work, wood sculpture, greeting cards, handmade leis and bracelets.
The Firehouse Gallery is open Friday through Sunday, from 11 am – 3:00 pm or whenever the
flags are flying. It is located on the Historic Corner at 67-1201 Mamalahoa Hwy., Kamuela,
Hawaii.
Mask wearing is mandatory.
The Waimea Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the arts, the encouragement of artists, and providing a forum for art-related community events.
