| Aloha,
I am pleased to present our 2022-23 Corporate Sustainability Report.
Our actions are focused on building a sustainable Hawai‘i where our children and grandchildren, our communities, our customers and our employees will thrive, together. The goal of our annual Sustainability Report, which we have published since 2007, is to document the progress we’re making on our transition to renewable energy and to make it easy to track each island’s contribution.
The theme of this year’s report is, “Building a Strong and Resilient Hawaiʻi Together,” which highlights some of the steps Hawaiian Electric is taking to reduce carbon emissions from power generation by 70% by 2030 compared to 2005 baseline levels.
It’s our kuleana, or responsibility, to move swiftly toward a clean energy future, reducing our dependence on imported oil. The report highlights how we’re building momentum as we add more renewables to our island grids, which over time will help stabilize customer bills. The first two grid-scale solar and storage facilities are now online on Oʻahu, with other projects on the way across our service territory. Generation maps (pages 4-6) show about a dozen clean energy projects that are scheduled for completion between now and 2025.
Most importantly, these results illustrate what we can accomplish by working together as a community. We’ll continue to work with our communities to make the best choices for Hawaiʻi’s clean energy future.
