HONOLULU — The Honolulu City Council unanimously confirmed Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s nine founding selections for the Oahu Historic Preservation Commission on Wednesday.

Among those confirmed were Kehaunani Abad and Glenn Mason to five-year terms; Thomas Dye, N. Mehanaokala Hind to four-year terms; Kai White and Richard Davis to three-year terms; Mahealani Cypher and Hailama Farden to two-year terms; and Nanea Lo to a one-year term
The commission was first approved more than 30 years ago but was never stood up
Last year, the Council passed Bill 44, which updated the original act and provided fresh impetus to establish and convene the body
As provided for in the newly enacted law, the commission, attached to the Department of Planning and Permitting, will advise the city on preservation policy, education, technical matters and advocacy; initiating nominations for state and national registers of historic places; and maintaining a system for surveying, inventorying and identifying historic properties
