City Council confirms first Oahu Historical Preservation Commission appointees

HONOLULU — The Honolulu City Council unanimously confirmed Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s nine founding selections for the Oahu Historic Preservation Commission on Wednesday.


What You Need To Know

    • Among those confirmed were Kehaunani Abad and Glenn Mason to five-year terms; Thomas Dye, N. Mehanaokala Hind to four-year terms; Kai White and Richard Davis to three-year terms; Mahealani Cypher and Hailama Farden to two-year terms; and Nanea Lo to a one-year term
    • The commission was first approved more than 30 years ago but was never stood up
    • Last year, the Council passed Bill 44, which updated the original act and provided fresh impetus to establish and convene the body
  • As provided for in the newly enacted law, the commission, attached to the Department of Planning and Permitting, will advise the city on preservation policy, education, technical matters and advocacy; initiating nominations for state and national registers of historic places; and maintaining a system for surveying, inventorying and identifying historic properties
