11 new public preschool classrooms to open this fall

HONOLULU — Eleven new public preschool classrooms will be ready to go when the 2020-24 school year kicks off in August, Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke announced on Wednesday.

  • The additions are part of the newly established Ready Keiki Initiative, which launched in January
  • The classrooms will end up costing half of what was expected and will be ready a year earlier than originally planned
    • Luke also announced the launch of the Ready Keiki public web portal
  • The initiative has set the goal of adding 465 new public preschool classrooms by 2032 to meet the current demand

The additions are part of the newly established Ready Keiki Initiative, which launched in January and grew from a $200 million appropriation from the Legislature to improve access to public preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds.
