Hawaii Volcanoes National Park earns top NPS education award

HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, Hawaii — The “Earth, Sea, Sky” education program, initiated by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and co-created by Hawaii Volcanoes, Imiloa Astronomy Center and Mokupapapa Discovery Center, has earned the top National Park Service award for its contribution to education, according to a national park news release.

The program’s educational field trips focused on 4th to 10th-grade students, taking them into the field at the three East Hawaii learning sites. The “Earth, Sea, Sky” program relates to the Kumulipo Hawaiian creation chant, connecting space with Earth’s living organisms.

Over 1,700 Hawaii Island students have completed “Earth, Sea, Sky” field trips.
