Civil Defense message for Tuesday 01-09-2024 12:56 PM.
The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Advisory for the following districts: Ka`u, North Kohala, North Kona, Puna, South Kohala, South Kona through 3:30 pm today.
A Flood Advisory means minor flooding is imminent or occurring.
Current closures include Highway 11 vicinity 92 mile marker in South Kona, Kaalaiki Rd. in Kau, and Mahukona Warf in North Kohala. Additional road closures may occur with little warning.
Due to the Flood Advisory, be advised:
- Flooding can be life-threatening. Residents in flood prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions.
- Please drive with caution. Be on the alert for run-off, ponding of water, debris, and poor visibility.
- Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around, don’t drown.
- Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
