HAWAIʻI COUNTY REMINDS PUBLIC OF FREE MICROCHIPPING AND DOG LICENSING EVENT THIS SATURDAY IN VOLCANO

Hawaiʻi County reminds the public of the upcoming Free Microchipping and Dog Licensing Event, held at the Cooper Center in Volcano on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to support responsible pet ownership and ensure the safety of pets throughout the county.

“We’re excited to offer our residents the opportunity to microchip their pets at no cost while also ensuring that all dogs are properly licensed,” said Mayor Mitch Roth. “This event is another step in our commitment to enhancing public safety and animal welfare in Hawaiʻi County.”

Event Details:

  • Free Microchipping: Available for both dogs and cats in Hawaiʻi County.
  • On-Site Dog Licensing: Dog owners can register their pets on-site for a fee of $2.10 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.10 for unaltered dogs. Payments can be made via cash, check, or money order (checks payable to the County Director of Finance).

In addition to free microchipping and licensing, several partner organizations will be joining to provide additional services and resources:

  • Aloha Ilio Rescue
  • Hawaiʻi Island Humane Society
  • Hawaiʻi Animal Kuleana Alliance
  • Aloha Animal Alliance
  • PetFix

Through a collaboration between Aloha Animal Alliance and Petco Love, we will also be offering free vaccines for dogs and cats. Dogs can receive Distemper and Parvo vaccines, while cats will be eligible for Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia vaccines. Additionally, PetFix will be on hand to register pets for their spay and neuter clinic.

“This is a vital service for our community,” Mayor Roth added. “By working with our dedicated non-profit partners, we ensure that our residents can access the resources to keep their pets healthy and safe. We hope that all in our Volcano community take advantage of this amazing opportunity.”

This is just one of several events planned throughout the island this year. The County will continue to update the public on upcoming events by following the Hawaiʻi County Animal Control Facebook page.
