Come join us for the annual Waimea Solar System Walk! Today, Saturday!
Aloha kākou,
Looking for a fun way to get your steps in today, Saturday? Walk ~1 mile while exploring the awe and wonder of the planets and celestial objects in our solar system!
Please join us for our annual Waimea Solar System Walk – an event we’ve had the pleasure of hosting the past 15 years. Journey from our W. M. Keck Observatory headquarters to Canada-France-Hawaiʻi Telescope’s (CFHT) offices; together, we’re turning the space between us into a scale model of the solar system.
Start your journey at the “Sun,” located on Keck Observatory’s campus; along the way, make pit stops at booths that each have solar system fun facts and interactive activities. Cross the finish line at CFHT’s headquarters, where a big party awaits you! It’s their 45th anniversary this year, so CFHT is bringing added fun, including:
- Costume contest with prizes
- Free ono grinds served up from the grill, plus birthday cake!
- Live music
- Bounce house
- Dunk tank: 100% of proceeds will go towards the Waimea Middle School Mentoring Program
Dunk the Director: among the folks you’ll have a chance to dunk is our very own Keck Observatory Director Rich Matsuda as well as Deputy Director/Chief Scientist John O’Meara – our staff is certainly looking forward to that part 😊
Parking is free at both of our campuses. Bring your ‘ohana – should be lots of fun! Hope to see you there!
Mahalo,
