…HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI MAUI AND BIG ISLAND UNTIL 6 AM HST SATURDAY… …COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT IN EFFECT FOR ALL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS THROUGH MONDAY MORNING… .Strong winds will maintain large east wind waves, keeping surf heights above advisory levels along exposed east facing shores into the weekend. Peak monthly tides will lead to minor coastal flooding in the typical low-lying vulnerable areas in the early mornings. * WHAT…For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 8 to 12 ft. For the Coastal Flood Statement, isolated minor coastal flooding. * WHERE…For the High Surf Advisory, for east facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island. For the Coastal Flood Statement, low lying coastal areas of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and the Big Island. * WHEN…For the High Surf Advisory, until 6 AM HST Sunday. For the Coastal Flood Statement, through Monday morning. * IMPACTS…Flooding of beaches that are normally dry, minor coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation. Moderate. Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous.

Instructions

Avoid driving through flooded roadways. If you are forced to drive through salt water, be sure to rinse your vehicle with fresh water. Move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps. Secure canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches. Heed all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.

…RED FLAG WARNING FOR LEEWARD AREAS OF ALL ISLANDS TODAY… .The combination of dry fuels, low relative humidity and strong trade winds will bring critical fire weather conditions for leeward sections of the state today. * AFFECTED AREA…Leeward portions of all Hawaiian Islands. * TIMING…From 10 AM this morning to 6 PM HST this evening. * WINDS…East 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY…As low as 40 to 45 percent. * IMPACTS…A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. A Red Flag Warning does not predict new fire starts.

Winds will be strongest over ridges, through passes and near higher terrain. * WHEN…Until 6 AM HST Sunday. * IMPACTS…Winds this strong can tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles.

Instructions

Watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving. Make sure tents and awnings are secure or take them down. Be prepared for power outages.
