On Saturday, November 30, 8:40 a.m. HST, a magnitude-4.0 earthquake occurred 11 mi (17 km) west-northwest of Volcano on the Island of Hawaiʻi at a depth of 13 mi (21 km) below sea level. The earthquake occurred south of Mauna Loa’s Northeast Rift Zone and is unrelated to magmatic activity. The earthquake had no apparent impact on either Mauna Loa or Kīlauea volcanoes.
The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory continues to monitor Hawaiian volcanoes for any changes.

- Location: 11 mi (17 km) WNW of Volcano, near the top of Mauna Loa Road
- Depth: 13 mi (21 km) below sea level
